“Do We Have A Christ-like Attitude?”
Written By: Roger Newberry – Member Godfrey First UMC
In Acts 16:25-34 Paul and Silas are in prison praying and praising God when there is an earthquake that is so strong that it shakes the foundations of the prison, opens the doors and loosens the chains of the prisoners. The earthquake seems to get the attention of the jailer ( If an earthquake doesn’t get your attention, I don’t know what will.) And he sees that there is something different about Paul and Silas, they are not complaining, they are praising God and praying. He wants to know what is so different about them .
Our attitude says a lot about whether or not we are Christians. It’s easy to have a Christlike attitude when things are going our way, but what about when things aren’t going our way? Sometimes , when things aren’t going our way we have an attitude that is quite ugly. We tend to gripe and take it out on everybody else. Remember that the world is watching.
The jailer wanted to how to become a Christian. Paul and Silas said to believe on the Lord Jesus Christ. They witnessed to him and to his family. As a result, the jailer ministered to their needs. When you have a Christlike attitude, people want to know more about Jesus. The Bible says in Romans 10:9 that if we confess with our mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in our heart that God has raised Him from the dead, we will be saved.
Do we have a Christlike attitude? Our actions can speak louder than words.
Lord, I want to have a Christlike attitude. Take away anything that would keep me from having an attitude that is pleasing to You. Amen.
